I’m one of a group of folks who have found unauthorized charges on their credit cards from Blockbuster, TLG (Trilegiant, owner of Great Fun, Autovantage, ad nauseum), and TWX (a magazine outfit.) Somehow somebody got hold of our credit card and personal information, set up fake emails (no doubt to answer validation requests), and signed us up for these offers so they could get themselves a free iPod or Mac mini. Perhaps they figure it’s safer, or less trackable, than using the credit card to buy stuff outright. I tracked most of the charges on my card to referrals from metareward.com, aka OrangeBrick.com, one of those “free stuff” offerers, which was recently acquired by Experian (yes, the credit bureau.) On this page, I will only mention the companies that have been proven to be legitimate and who follow through on their promises to send the free items in question to their customers.

[Kevinrose.typepad.com] dot com: Thumbs down to OfferCentric (considering I sent them over 200 referrals and the referral that they claim disqualified me was not even needed by me - as more than 18 of my referrals already completed an offer - and 18 is all that was needed to get a free notebook.  If OfferCentric decides to reinstate my account and show good faith and prove that they are a legitimate company that supports the people that supported their promotions - I will make sure to update this post.  As it stands right now - OfferCentric refuses to budge even though we can easily prove that my buddy that signed up resides in a different household.  So they will profit from all of my referrals that completed an offer and I will get nothing because their terms state:
