The 100 Best Products of 2005
[CeprixConception] PC World has switched sides in the operating system debate, naming Apples Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger the No. 1 operating system. Mac OS X Tiger ranks at No. 3 in the list of 100 Best Products of 2005 in this months issue. “Tigers big new addition, to what was already a well-engineered Mac operating system, is Spotlight, a speedy, well-integrated tool for searching your hard drive. And its the best-looking OS around. In other words, Mac fans are already enjoying the cool features that Windows wont deliver until late 2006.”
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[chris . word] Laying low and putting Tiger to the test: about Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger. Features such as Spotlight, the new iChat AV, new Mail, improved speed... incompatibilities. And, there is, of course, the AppleTiger Discussion Forums. No matter what, always make... I have been busy for the last week or so. Thanks, in part, to the good folks at Apple Computer
[chris . word] Tiger arrives: Apple's latest OS, Mac OSX Tiger has arrived. We went down to the Pasadena Apple Store last night to get our copy. I installed it on my Powerbook and my G5 and all is well. So, go out and get yours right now and enjoy. I have provided a convenient link for you on the right. Isn't that nice of me

[Most American Women Openly Prefer It] The Powerbook Ordeal, Part 1: I spent three hours at the apple store, calculating cost benefits of various potential purchases.. Do I buy the mac mini and forego firewire 800, audio inputs, RAM ceilings and small drives but all for a tiny sum? OR do I go for the G5 desktop, the beast of power, pop it next to my HP desktop and be king of my block? Or is it the imac I need?
[Usability In The News] Window Dress for Success: "Now that Mac OS X Tiger has given us yet another variation on window chrome ” the user interface ”parts that frame windows in the operating system ” I got to thinking about how they all work together. Well, to begin with, Ive more or less given up on the idea that there truly is any kind of overarching strategy at work between the various styles of chrome offered by Apple. For instance, theres no clear reason to me why the Finder is adorned with brushed metal or that Mail 2.0 looks completely foreign from its logical close cousin, the Address Book. Even saying there was, at one point, some kind of tidy logic governing chrome styles, that original concept has taken yet another debilitating body blow.

[Whiterabbits.com] Mac Net Journal: In the last year that I have been working for the City of Tacoma, one of the bigger changes has been that I no longer catch the latest wave of controversy or intrigue about Apple's twists and turns on the first moment they hit the Mac Web. Sometimes I miss out on something significant, but most of the time I simply find out about the latest silly tempest in a teapot after a few of the most ludicrous story lines have melted away. That's the case today with all of the "news" about Apple courting Intel.
[Kottke.org] Extra! Extra! Tiger Headlines Roar! (kottke.org): I'm somewhat disappointed I couldn't find a headline that depicted a battle between Tiger and Microsoft's Longhorn, something like "Apple's Tiger Slays Microsoft's Grazing Longhorn, Leaving Bloody Entrails Strewn All Over OS Marketplace". I mean, why even bother if you're not going to go completely over the top? Amateurs.
