Bought a 2nd hand Dell CPxJ laptop from eBay bout 2 weeks ago, lovely bit of kit, I've never owned one before so its all new and exciting... Only problem is the battery life, I have discovered that the laptop is over 4 years old (made in 2000) so I can only assume the 'use it or lose it' scenario is true in this case, or they put a new/refurbed battery in the laptop, and I didn’t condition it properly the first time I used it. I've just completely flattened my battery (as I hear this is a good thing) and now I am going to charge it over night and see if it makes any difference, as I have read that new/refurbed batteries need 3-4 goods charge/discharge cycles to get maximum capacity.

I use a tool called 18kfanGUI, which is a programme written for Dell laptops to keep an eye on things.

It is currently sitting at the local Dell dealers, Softlogic's, workshop, which fortunately is only a two minute walk from our apartnment. I've got to go back at 14:00 and get the verdict on it. Last Wednesday evening I received notification via Techbargains and several other RSS feeds I subscribe to that at 6AM PST the next morning Dell was going to release a "$750 off $1500+ laptop" coupon that would expire after $10,000 systems had been sold. I set my alarm for 5:45AM, stumbled out of bed the next morning, poured a half mug of coffee down my throat, tossed $279 in options onto the base system to get it above the $1500 level and placed my order. At 6:48AM PST the offer expired.
