Joi Ito's Webhttp://joi.ito.com [Joi Ito's Web] The day before yesterday, I sat next to Colin Angle the co-founder and CEO of iRobot at dinner. I've had been looking for a way to get a Roomba and I asked him how I could get one in Japan. He told me that they are in fact selling them in Japan with a somewhat limited distribution and asked me for my thoughts.

[Intellectual Security] Seven Laws of Information Risk Management: "The productivity and cost savings associated with relying on technology to streamline internal operations, better arm sales forces and communicate more effectively with partners and customers are enormous -- and so are the risks," said Akio Sakamoto, President, CEO and Co-founder at IPLocks. "Perimeter-based security, encryption, traditional security approaches and database management systems cannot stop the most lethal thieves, which are users with legitimate authorization. Only a strong solution based on user behavior can provide organizations with effective and reliable first and last lines of defense."

We're equally excited to team with Netflix, the pioneer of online movie rentals, which not only distinguishes both of our core online competencies, but offers a complementary solution of value, service, and convenience to customers," said John Fleming, Wal-Mart's executive vice president and chief marketing officer who also oversees Walmart.com at the executive level.

[DER JUNGE SIEHT UND DENKT] It's a flat world, after all: First, it brought the Internet alive by giving us the browser to display images and data stored on Web sites. Second, the Netscape stock offering triggered the dot-com boom, which triggered the dot-com bubble, which triggered the massive overinvestment of billions of dollars in fiber-optic telecommunications cable. That overinvestment, by companies like Global Crossing, resulted in the willy-nilly creation of a global undersea-underground fiber network, which in turn drove down the cost of transmitting voices, data and images to practically zero, which in turn accidentally made Boston, Bangalore and Beijing next-door neighbors overnight. In sum, what the Netscape revolution did was bring people-to-people connectivity to a whole new level.

Garage.co.jp[Garage.co.jp] Digital Garage -IR Info-: Joi’s collaboration with DG on this initiative marks our first official collaboration following the sale of DG’s Infoseek division to the Walt Disney Corporation in November of 1999. (At that time U.S. Infoseek had been acquired by Disney, and the staff of DG’s Infoseek division went to Disney as part of the DG/ Disney deal.) Since then, Joi and I had kept in touch and exchanged information from time to time. There was no disagreement between us that blogging will have a dramatic effect on Internet business. It is hard to believe that it was only ten years ago when we started our net-evangelism efforts from scratch (setting up a server and launching the first homepage in Japan, introducing portal business into Japan, establishing the Internet advertising media rep, etc.) Since then I have had the strong feeling, that Japan’s Internet portal scene would have seen a very different evolution if it had not been so disrupted by the M&A activities of U.S. companies.
