[GPS Technology Reviews] Garmin StreetPilot C310, C320, C330 and C340 Review: The C300 series Garmin StreetPilot is a suitable choice if you’re are new to using GPS (yes, a newbie) or attracted to a simple to use automotive GPS system without too much detail. The C300 units have less gadgetry and less likelihood of inflicting techno frustration.
[Into the Half Light] My Review: Samsung Omnia SCH-i910 (Verizon) « Into the Half Light: Id call it faster than the Blackberry Storm, but still slower than the iPhone. Some of these perceived responsiveness issues may be due to the OS, too, which brings us to Windows Mobile 6.1. I’ll be the first to say that it’s a somewhat outdated mobile OS that’s been surpassed in some ways by Apple, and some would say Symbian and Google as well. It doesn’t have advanced features like multi-touch (in fact it’s not very touch-friendly at all yet), nor has it spawned the plethora of cutesy and questionably useful apps that you’ll get with the iPhone. However, for all of the crap its dealt, it is a deep and powerful OS that has rich industry support. And it may have taken a while to find it all, but in a short time I’ve amassed a sizeable batch of really solid software, some of which even the god phone itself would be jealous of. More on that in a minute.
[Consolation Champs] Technolust: Garmin Forerunner 405: This thing will do everything: track distance, time, map routes, even heart-rate (on one model). Best of all, it can upload its data to the web, where you can analyze it or compare yourself with others on Garmins new Connect .
[williamhathaway.com] williamhathaway.com » Blog Archive » Garmin versus Garmin: Note that even though the 405 looks less dorky, I am sure I looked like a complete tool tonight when I wore both of the the watches while running. I lucked out in that it was almost completely dark out by the time I ran, thus hiding my gadgetry shame. I did have a real goal though, I wanted to see how close the two devices would be for my run. From a distance measured perspective, they were pretty darn close (and I’m sure I added a second or so on stopping and starting since I couldn’t hit them both at the same exact time).
[GPS Navigation Blog] GPS and Wireless News 2005 Archive: It starts with SiRF's pioneering SiRFstarIIe architecture, embeds a 32-bit ARM720T CPU into the GPS baseband platform for running applications, and adds an extensive suite of peripheral interfaces -- including UARTS, CAN Bus, USB, SPI, ATAPI/EIDE, 16 bit Hi-Fi Audio Digital to Analog Converters, 14 bit precision Digital to Analog Converters, and 34 general-purpose I/O pins -- supporting the Man-Machine Interface and Audio functions, as well as all other connection and control of system functions, dramatically reducing total bill of materials costs. Along with SiRF's suite of support tools for system development, including GPS and dead reckoning applications, SiRF is partnering with QNX Software Systems to provide a complete state-of-the-art system development kit (SDK) and board support package (BSP) based on the QNX Neutrino real-time operating system, and with Horizon Navigation to offer its NavMate software for sample turn-by-turn and map-based navigation applications.
[Lifehacker Australia] What Gadgets Help You Get in Shape? - Lifehacker Australia: The pace readout while you're running can sometimes be wildly off when blocked by trees..yet, when you upload data to the Garmin site, it's fine. They need to tweak the software to perform better interpolation between data points to smooth the pace calculation.
[Wassup] Samsung Omnia - New iPhone 3G Killer?: I recently got an Omnia, i did have trouble starting up the camera at first, i think i did a master reset, and restarted the phone,it now works when i go into the program from the windows menu, but it still wont open by pressing the top button next to the volume keys, also, i dont know if anyone else is having this problem, but my mum and i both got the omnia at the same time, and for some reason if the phone is left on the side, locked or unlocked, sometimes it will just answer itself without ringing or any warning, and people will be shouting down the phone for ages until i eventually hear it, my mum has the same problem, this could be quite embarrasing if it is not sorted, i have turned the auto answer off, and searched the phone and manual for hours for a solution. Please help!

[Gizmodo Australia] Ultra Late Adopter: Why I Don't Want an iPhone... But Will ...: I think that is far more dependent on your temperment than it is on the accessibility to technology, and you don't seem like one of those Type-A people. I don't have the iPhone myself, nor do I plan to buy this one, because it does some things I don't need it to do and doesn't do some things I want it do.
[GM-VOLT : Chevy Volt Concept Site] Give Your Direct Input to GMs Volt Engineering Team on Vehicle ...: I see the Volt as a commuter car. It should be comfortable but it doesn’t need all of the frills. I would guess that the distance to work and back home again stays the same for over 95% of the people so after the first week you’ll know if you can make it there and back without using any gas. If its going to sell to the mass market, price is more important then including the geek options. Soccer moms want to drop their kids at school, do the shopping, pick the kids up and taxi them to practice or whatever and be able to schedule a convenient time to recharge (the car) if needed or not. Heck, if the first 40 miles are gas free so what if the last 10 cost you a 1/5 of a gallon that still works out to 250 mpg overall. I don’t need a bunch of frills and privacy invasion to tell me I’m saving money and polluting less! Keep the price under $30,000. The father under the better so that more people can afford it and we can cut our dependence on oil which would do wonders for our economy and our environment.
