Therefore, election observers need to know about the vulnerabilities so they can help reduce the risk that someone could use them to rig an election.

Cicadamania.nethttp://www.cicadamania.net [Cicadamania.net] Cicada Mania Weblog / Message Board Archive 8 - Cicada Mania: Message: We have had cicadas emerging here since at least May 12th. We are in the middle of a 500 acre forest at 2000 ft altitude just west of Murphy and near the TN border. The mystery IS that we have not heard any of the cicadas singing in the trees surrounding our house although we see them flitting from tree to tree, but we have heard them for a week or so in the distance to the east of us.Why don't they make noise in our trees or anywhere around our house???We usually feed hundreds of birds here with our feeders but they have been gone the last few weeks apparently on an Atkins diet of cicadas instead of our sunflower seed so I can't see that the cicadas would be afraid of our bird population...they aren't here! Can anyone venture a theory? We're mystified. We want to hear them up close and personal.

[Milkfactory.typepad.com] milk factory blog: Parenting Tips: Yesterday I tried giving Ella some small pieces of steamed apple without the skin, but they were too slippery for her to pick up. So then I did something that almost scared the milky white skin off of go-Daddy-O. I had read somewhere that you can give babies wedges of cooked apple or pear as finger food, so I gave the babe a slice, and the next thing you know, she had shoved the entire thing into her mouth. Actually, I think she was doing fine--she has 2 huge bottom teeth, and she's working on 4 more on the top and 1 more on the bottom.

Bloglines.comhttp://www.bloglines.com [Bloglines.com] In the air of our times - Powered By Bloglines: Explanation: The first hint of what will become of ourSun was discovered inadvertently in1764.At that time,Charles Messier was compiling a listof diffuse objects not to be confused with comets. The 27th object onMessier's list, now known asM27 or the Dumbbell Nebula, is aplanetary nebula, the type of nebula our Sunwill produce whennuclear fusion stops in its core.M27 is one of the brightestplanetary nebulae on the sky,and can be seen in the constellation Vulpecula with binoculars. It takes light about 1000 years to reach us from M27,shown above, digitally sharpened, in three standard colors.Understanding the physics and significance ofM27 was well beyond 18th century science.Even today, many things remain mysterious aboutbipolar planetary nebula likeM27, including the physical mechanism that expels alow-mass star's gaseous outer-envelope, leaving anX-ray hotwhite dwarf.

http://www.edgewiseblog.com [Edgewiseblog.com] mjh's Blog - Theirs: Irshad Manji: Well to many people I am not really a Muslim; that’s fine. I can tell you that you know I’ve done enough of my homework to know that when the first dissidents within Islam emerged from the woodwork only 100 years after Islam was established they, too, were accused not just of being real Muslims--or sorry--of not being real Muslims, but they were also accused of being in the pay of the Jews, and all kinds of conspiracy theories that still persist to this day. The thing though, Fareed, and I speak from hard experience here is that I know that the emerging generation of Muslims--not just in North America, but around the world, is desperate for debate and discussion--so much so that this was the number one reason that I had the emotional commitment and not just the intellectual commitment to write a book called The Trouble with Islam Today.

Peterpayne.net[Peterpayne.net] J-List side blog: April 2004: Just as some English speakers throw a dash of French into their writing to show off their soigne, Japanese businessmen and news commentators love to pepper their speech with English words like "consensus" "manifesto" and "initiative" which can cause plenty of confusion for the majority of Japanese who don't know what these words mean. Sometimes it's hard even for me to understand the English the Japanese use: English words sometimes get imported into Japanese with slightly different meanings, for example "claim" (it means "complaint" in Japanese, almost the same thing but not quite), "cunning" (it means "cheating" as in cheating on a test), "rouge" (lipstick), "manicure" (nail polish). Due to a quirk of Japanese phonology, words are often imported in their plural form, thus the Japanese use such words as shirts, suits and fruits even when talking about one shirt, suit or fruit. The Japanese are also very creative with their adopted second language, and regularly invent new words, such as "shutter chance" (a good opportunity to take a picture), "charm point" (what makes a person special in the eyes of others), and "skinship" (a term for the loving touch of a mother's skin against her baby's while in the bath).
