And when you're away from home and ready to use your laptop, you unfold the laptrap and leave the laptop in it. It provides a stable surface where there might not be any, you can even just rest it on your lap.

[Computer Alchemy] Laptrap Laptop Sleeve Reviewed (Verdict: Neat Freaks’ Friend): The Shaun Jackson Design / Higher Ground Laptrap sleeve looks interesting—an entire mobile workspace folding out from a single backpack—but it also lacks an important feature in any bag of mine: the ability to cram lots of extra crap inside. So if you're a meticulous sort, willing to wrap cords and exert some measure of pre-trip planning, it might be worth a look.

Powerbookcentral.comhttp://www.powerbookcentral.com [Powerbookcentral.com] Product Review: Laptrap Laptop Sleeve: Higher Ground calls Laptrap a computer sleeve rather than a full-on "bag." At 5" x 12" x 3.75", it is in fact smaller than most laptop bags I've tried, but a little bit deeper than your standard sleeve. This is due in large part to Laptrap's unique folding design that provides its "portable office" functionality -- both the front and back of the sleeve open up when it's time to get to work. When the main compartment is unzipped and open, the back panel of the sleeve opens up forming a hinged bottom/back surface so you can use your computer without having to take it out of the case (and set it atop someone else's coffee spill and cookie crumbs). The bottom surface features four adjustable rubber pads that protect your laptop while in transit and raise it up to allow air to circulate beneath the computer while in use.

It won’t charge your laptop, of course (you probably can’t even fit your laptop inside), but it will keep your cellphone or MP3 player topped off, more than likely. As Treehugger points out, it doesn’t have a built-in battery (only the Voltaic does, to my knowledge), but that’ll save you a little weight, if you don’t need it.
