[Cinematical] MovieTech: Nanotech to increase DVD capacity to 850gb?: Iomega believes DVD media is far from the end of it's life. They have filed patents to remain competitive with upcoming optical storage technologies such as Blu-ray and HD-DVD which would involve Nanotechnology. The new technology could multiply the current maximum capacity of 8.5GB by a factor of 40 to 100, the company said. The firm was granted two patents that cover a specific use of nanotechnology in combination with optical data storage as well as a "method and apparatus for optical data storage." In the patent description, Iomega talks about a technique of encoding data on the surface of a DVD by using reflective nano-structures to encode data in a multi-level format.
[EarningsCast!] Earningscast-Intel-2005-Q1-INTC: The company introduced Intel StrataFlash(R) Embedded Memory, bringing the high performance, high density and cost-effectiveness of Intel’s multi-level cell flash technology to embedded applications. Available in densities ranging from 64Mb to 512Mb today, with 1Gb becoming available in the second quarter, the new devices are Intel’s lowest cost-per-bit flash solutions for market segments including consumer electronics, industrial automation and wire-line communications. Intel also began shipping its first 90nm flash products and shipped samples of its first 90nm flash memory with multi-level cell technology, code-named Sibley.

[Livingroom.org.au] Toshiba announces 2 and 4 Gigabyte Compact Flash Cards: The high density of the new THNCF4G09PG 4GB card is achieved by combining four of Toshiba’s 8-gigabit (Gb)3 multi-level-cell (MLC) components in the matchbook-sized CompactFlash memory card packaging, and the standard 2GB card, designated THNCF2G04PG contains two of the 8Gb MLC components. Toshiba’s 8Gb MLC NAND Flash memory is currently composed of two MLC 4Gb NAND chips in a single TSOP package. MLC NAND stores two bits of information in each memory cell, compared to one bit-per-cell for Single-Level Cell (SLC) NAND Flash, and provides excellent cost/performance value well suited for use in low to high-end digital still cameras, camcorders and MP3 players.
