Hilary Rosen, Queen of Hypocrisy.

[Oceanside, Nevada :: Main Page] I mentioned this the other day: Hilary Rosen, former head of the RIAA and chief architect of the idea that all consumers are criminals and file-sharing is the fifth horseman of the Apocalypse, is really steamed that Apple uses DRM on the iPod. Disregard for a moment the fact that Hilary lobbied hard for the DMCA, the legislation that pretty much requires Apple to use DRM in music bought through the iTMS. No, strike that, don't disregard it. Hilary Rosen, you are an absolute fucking hypocrite and I cannot believe the nerve it must take for you to have such an opinion.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[The Rambler] Hilary Rosen follow up: Jobs isn't going to open up his system until it makes business sense. Unfortunately, Miss Rosen hasn't provided a single argument as to why it makes good business sense for him to do so. The point that Apple are merely applying a business model - a user-unfriendly one, granted, but one that the music industry has in no small part forced them into - is often missed among the bluster. Most of us music lovers are not against the music industry; we're simply against an industry that makes access to the things we love unreasonably difficult.

Theregister.co.ukhttp://www.theregister.co.uk [Theregister.co.uk] Former RIAA chief goes after Apple's 'anti-consumer' CEO | The ...: (Apple is restrictive about music use with iTunes and is taking a pretty anti-consumer stance on the matter, but, come on, the iPod plays MP3s. We wouldn't need anything more than that if the RIAA wasn't trying to shove DRM down our throats. Having Rosen, even a fake one, write about restrictive, unfriendly anything is like Stalin whinging about a lack of good literature in the Soviet libraries. Speaking of which, be sure to enter our "Biting the Pigopolists" contest before it's too late.

Corante.comhttp://www.corante.com [Corante.com] Hilary Rosen Laments Apple's DRM Strategy: Corante > Copyfight >: Regardless of whether or not Miss Rosen likes I-Tunes, the real point in all of this is the sheep in this country don't stand up when a court-granted right gets trampled on. Betamax gave us the right to use our legitimately purchased media in any way we see fit, short of selling copies of it. These same sheep didn't stand up in sufficient numbers to derail the DMCA as it was winding its way through Congress, and as a result we are being stripped of our Betamax right.

[Pacanukeha.blogspot.com] It's all about control: Hilary Rosen Laments Apple's DRM Strategy: Yes, that's right, Hilary "You're going to jail, bitch!" Rosen is grumpy about Apple's DRM Strategy. I quote Cory Doctorow:

[Chris.tantramarinteractive.com] Hilary Rosen's At It Again | Christopher Mackay's blog: These are restrictive formats that prevent universal interoperability, too, but apparently Apple is the only company with a moral duty to roll over and play dead the instant they enjoy any success. After all, conventional wisdom dictates that Apple can't possibly succeed.

Cdfreaks.comhttp://www.cdfreaks.com [Cdfreaks.com] Former RIAA CEO Hilary Rosen criticises Apple's iTunes store - CD ...: If a consumer were to switch from CDs to legal music download services, there is quite a large selection to choose from, such as iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody and Sony Connect just to name a few.  However if the consumer gets an MP3 player, their choice of stores narrows depending on if they would like to take music with them or what formats the player supports.  The former RIAA CEO Hilary Rosen has just fallen into this 'trap' after receiving an iPod from a friend as the iPod only officially works with iTunes.
