[Woip.blogspot.com] VoIP Blog: In recent weeks, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Luxembourg-based Skype Technologies SA has signed a string of deals with wireless handset manufacturers. Carrier Devices, for instance, has agreed to install proprietary Skype VOIP (voice over Internet Protocol) software in its i-mate branded Pocket PC phones with Wi-Fi capability. Motorola is also on board to integrate Skype software into a number of its new wireless devices. Another big-name manufacturer on the list is Siemens, which has launched a dongle that runs Skype on Siemens' DECT phones.

While I do forsee the day of $9.95 plans, I believe that pricing of VoIP will eventually mirror the current pricing of PSTN, and will have a downward pricing pressure on PSTN. [Gigaom.com] Om Maliks Broadband Blog » Skype, VoIP Honeymoon over?: Much as we like to bitch and moan about the incumbents, they do get the backend part right. For any new technology to succeed, there is a need for a special focus on backend and making sure that the customers are happy. Skype for instance is adding new partners by the day, but I fear that their infrastructure and support costs are going to go through the roof. And given how little their margins are, I am once again left shaking my head.
