Gadgetism.org > Apple rumors start to heat up; could they be lining up an attack on Microsoft?
[Lunar Adventures] It seems to me that the two items are mutually exclusive, and I think 1) is more likely than 2). If Apple and IBM have finally solved the heat dissipation issues in the G5 that kept it out of laptops for much longer than Apple wanted, one of their major beefs with IBM is settled. But my understanding is even the most recent iMac G5s (like mine) run pretty hot — and same have overheating issues. Not a good sign for the laptop.

[Don't trust the Indian Media!] Gaming.: Y'see despite everything, there are actually few options to having Windows, Apple products kick ass, but are mundo expensivo, and the Apple dealer in Delhi, a chap called Arun Nath, works out a shadyy little place behind Uphaar Cinema Hall. The glizy Apple stores are nowhere to be seen, not even in Jaggery Village. Well, actually there is only ONE Apple Store which deserves that title and that is in the Forum Mall in Bangalore, and that isn't even a patch on the one near Times Square. A good iMac costs upwards of a lakh, and even a stripped down 12" Apple iBook costs over Rs 60k, if you import one in.
[Bill Cara: Capital Markets & Social Equity] Week #21 (2005-05-28) in Review: As to Intel, that sale was for a different reason. The INTC “story” this week was that Apple were thinking of switching to Intel chips. In addition to the extreme Over-bought condition of INTC, with stochastic indicators bouncing off 100 for the STO and in the 90 range for RSI, there is a doubt in my mind that Apple would actually commit to the costs of switching to a new technology. And I dont think Intel is so hard done-by that they are going to give it away free.

[Sorebrek's Musings and Ramblings] Long Tail or Tall Tale?: They recognized that selling software to organizations is not the same as selling shrink-wrapped software to consumers. Organizations need solutions, not platforms and IBM builds platforms and backs them up with armies of consultants who customize the solution for the company in question. In the process they end up serving the customer's need better and making more money. Only time will tell if this method of throwing man-power at the problem rather than developing smarter software is the right approach or if it is even feasible.
[Bill Cara: Capital Markets & Social Equity] Week #17 (2005-04-30) in Review: There will be the rich (Energy sector) and the poor (everybody else except maybe the utility sector as those companies will be able to price their products just under the high water mark or should I say scum left by the oil companies). Ill really start to worry when XOM and CVX starts to put out bids to acquire IBM or HPQ - for diversification purposes - which they could do out of their chump change these days, and may even try if Goldman Sachs - which is likely to recommend anything these days - puts them up to it.”

[Everythingapple.blogspot.com] Everything Apple: IBM talks about G5 yields: So as I look to the future, in the second half, we see our performance continuing at this ramp and a lot of improvements and confidence in our second half for this technology business. And it's really based on that that we reiterated that we're confident we'll make money in this unit for the year. There is a lot of PR speak in that quote, but his statements (again) confirm what we knew all along, that IBM delayed Apple for nearly half a year, because of poor chip yields at 90 nm. Also, partially because of this they'll still losing money in their technology group.

[Doc.weblogs.com] The Doc Searls Weblog : Tuesday, May 14, 2002: Apple, it now appears to me, is walking the Earth, picking up and putting to use all kinds of freely available innerstructure. They seem to be careful not to position themselves against other UNIXes. Or anything in particular, other than the high costs of Windows. I think they expect this stuff to be added, like a new crop, to existing server farms.

Included in the Web Services features are a native XML Coder and a Decoder"
[Gigaom.com] Om Maliks Broadband Blog » Connected Home: Umair sums up my feelings when he writes, “So the question becomes - assuming that it’s not the transaction costs that stop them, why aren’t people podcasting? I think it’s because podcasts don’t realize the same kind of huge complementarity that blogs do, through comments, link aggregators, etc.”
