Hulger PIP: The Wooden Edition

Nintendo's third place victory

http://www.freyburg.com [Freyburg.com] But while the two electronics giants duke it out amongst the hardcore gamers, Nintendo has been cleverly marketing itself as the alternative system for casual gamers, culminating in the innovative Nintendo DS and the Wii. And they've done so at a profit, while Sony (and until a short time ago, Microsoft) spent billions to push their consoles at a loss.

Zune: sucks?

http://www.freyburg.com [Freyburg.com] I'm a big Apple fan, and a die-hard iPod fan, but I think people are giving the Zune short shrift. I'm sure it's a fairly half-baked device, but Microsoft has a history of releasing "meh" software which they work the kinks out of gradually.

Which one should I put on my list?

[joepopp.com] The PS3 has a lot of bells and whistles that might even justify the cost, the Wii has all kinds of originality that makes it attractive to everyone, and the Xbox 360 has a year head start on both of its rivals. With all the holiday hub bub, I thought I’d just let everyone know how my experience is going.

Nixon Elite Series

http://www.joshspear.com [ Josh Spear] I have owned several Nixon watches over the years, and I have always liked them because they are (in general) inexpensive but push the style threshold– I can wear them with confidence, but don’t mind replacing them every year or so with a new one.

Panasonic Retro Headphones

http://www.joshspear.com [ Josh Spear] My gut tells me these Panasonic Retro Piano Painted Headphones don’t sound nearly as good as they look (okay, we’re snobs)– they’re no Grado RS1’s (they cost about $600 less), but they sure do look nice, so we think they’d do just fine with our iPod nano.

Exploiting His Smiling Face

http://www.stalebetty.com [Stale Betty: Voted Most Likely To Wear Granny Panties™] This was taken with my phone so the quality is terrible and I think I had my thumb over the mic because the Beetle sounds like he has a lisp. LOL Anyway, he was all smiley but felt I was “exploiting his smiling face”

Loc8tor - tracking your stuff

[More Tomorrow] A new electronic gadget called the Loc8tor uses radio waves and multiple aerials, plus some fancy software, to locate postage stamp sized transmitters which can be attached to almost anything, within a range of up to 600 feet. This thing sounds really useful.

PS3 debut madness

http://www.freyburg.com [Freyburg.com] I personally don't get the consumer frenzy that is the release of the PS3. It's an overpriced, ugly, hulking beast of a console released by a company staffed entirely by madmen.

I Was #5 In Line, You Know

http://www.stalebetty.com [Stale Betty: Voted Most Likely To Wear Granny Panties™] The Nintendo Wii comes out tomorrow and since I was a very very very good wife and went to stand in line for HOURS while the Beetle was “at sea” to PRE-ORDER one (I was #5 in line, you know), we get to pick ours up tomorrow at 8am and avoid all the psycho killer shoppers out there.

iPod Vending Machines

[Snakes in My Ass!] Yeah these have been all the rage, and after hearing about it all last year, I finally got to see a ton of them in San Francisco over the summer. I took this crappy cameraphone pic of one at Macy’s down at Union Square SF.

Microsoft Buying Suse? Not so much.

http://kamikazelabs.com [KamikazeLabs] As Linux and Microsoft currently do a pretty fine job of running on the same computer (especially if that computer is a Mac running BootCamp), what I HOPE that means is that we’ll see Microsoft loosening up its driver policies, or even assisting development on Linux hardware drivers. I certainly wouldn’t hate seeing something like DirectX on Linux, if only because of its market-share, and how restrictive that is towards the adoption of game developers to the Linux platform.
