It went down ”” Apple switches to Intel

[Lunar Adventures] Could Apple be banking not on software, not on hardware, but on services like iTunes and iMovies (or whatever else you want to call the theoretical and predicted service to buy movies in an iTunes-like environment)? Maybe Apple needed the Intel DRM to convince movie execs to let them make this service. Could be why Apple ignored AMD in this whole thing — who a lot of people think have better chips, overall, than Intel.

[Shisso] I did few research to see which is the best way to get the PSP at the most reasonable price, at the end of the day, Ebay is still the place to go for. Sony has already announced the retail price in Australia will be at $429 when it comes out in September, that price is for PSP itself and not the value pack which is what I got for only US$260 (about AUD$320). The Value Pack has the case, cables, earphones, 32mb memory card etc. Unless if you are not fuss about owning one, but if you do thinking of getting one, then I advice you not to wait, cuz the price won't be cheap when it gets here after the shipping and custom tax.

Dating: Where does your girlfriend go?

http://modernguy.blogspot.com [The Modern Guy] I would have never thought, growing up, that I would ever have to worry about a girl cheating on me in a relationship; mostly because I had never considered cheating myself. But once I was in a long term relationship, it was easy based on her actions to be mindful of signs that she may be unfaithful. It had a lot to do with her lack of female friends, and her need to always be social with males; something that has infected the culture of females today. The saddest part is that I would have entertained the idea of using the afore mentioned product in order to clear my anxiety about her extra-curricular life.

Uber-Cool! Free PSP offers turn out to be the real deal

[Computer Alchemy] I’ve already canceled my ConsumerInfo membership, now I just need a few more referrals and my free PSP should be on its way — I can’t wait!  And if you use my referral link, don’t forget to reply to this post and add your own referral link.  Remember, it only takes 5 referrals to get the free PSP so once I have my 5, I won’t need any more referrals and I’ll use YOUR code for all the links instead of mine so you can get your free PSP that much faster.

So, Heres a Few Updates.

[In Silent Code.] In a follow up to my post regarding a new laptop, (OMG!!! I MIGHT GET A NEW LAPTOP), i’ve settled on a Dell Inspiron 9300. I’m most likely bundling it with a Dell Axim X50, as I am getting it using dell financing, which is paid monthly.

Thoughts about Nokia 770

[Cyrus’ Weblog] we don’t have the best wireless coverage in Turkey but most universities have wifi on campus, we also have Starbucks and Gloria Jeans, Schlotzky’s Deli cafés with wifi coverage, I heard about McDonalds restaurants were implementing wifi and every company on the block I work has wifi. Personally I have access to wifi almost everywhere I go in this city and you don’t think more than 10 million people with frequent access to wifi is NOT adequate for publishing an internet tablet in their own language...

Hulger, the phone handset we all really want”¦

Webfroothttp://www.webfroot.co.nz [Webfroot] Some of you might have heard of Pokia, a small firm who would run ebay auctions on limited edition prototype retro cell phone handsets. Well after some talks with Nokia they have changed their name to Hulger (an explanation can be found here to that name) and are now selling a run of snazzy retro handsets of the classical dial phone sort from the 80s. Nothing like talking on a retro handset to really set yourself out from the crowd at the office.

iPod and Cellphone Vending Machines Coming to Airports

http://www.realtechnews.com [Real Tech News - Independent Tech] Vending machines have gotten very sophisticated outside the US. You can rent DVDs, buy real cartons of milk and other groceries, and even pick up a PSP or an iPod Mini while you wait for your connecting flight. Thanks to a company called Zoom Systems, we’ll be getting the same upgrade in vending - moving from gum and candy to iPods, cell phones and all sorts of great gadgetry. Zoom machines are already in use in Atlanta and San Francisco.

Quote of the day

[Relevant History] Both the MG TC and 356 were simple machines, even for their time. Where they excelled was in the sense of lightness that comes with a simple (but elegantly executed) mechanical specification, resulting in a direct, stimulating driving experience. From a pure feel point of view, there’s no substitute for “adding lightness” to a car.

Dog Gadgets / Talking Bone

[You Are a Dog] MSNBC.com had a story on some "pet-friendly gadgets" today, including the Talking Bone: Fun with pet-friendly gadgets - Today, Weekend Edition - MSNBC.com: "Your dog loves to hear the sound of his master's voice. So give him a toy that will tell him what he loves to hear, even if you're not at home! The Talking Bone is a soft chew toy that contains a voice module. You can record your own changeable message. When your dog nudges or picks up the Talking Bone, the voice module is activated."You are not amused by the word "master." Nor do you understand the word "master," exactly...

Apple rumors start to heat up; could they be lining up an attack on Microsoft?

[Lunar Adventures] It seems to me that the two items are mutually exclusive, and I think 1) is more likely than 2). If Apple and IBM have finally solved the heat dissipation issues in the G5 that kept it out of laptops for much longer than Apple wanted, one of their major beefs with IBM is settled. But my understanding is even the most recent iMac G5s (like mine) run pretty hot — and same have overheating issues. Not a good sign for the laptop.

Casio VL-Tone

[quantumBlog] The VL-Tone was created by Toshio Kashio, an amateur musician and one of the Kashio brothers who founded Casio in 1946 – it was his idea to build the electronic calculator that they launched in 1957. He helped to design the single-chip synth which could combine and filter square waves into simple sounds. Toshio’s brothers weren’t convinced that there was a market for such a tiny and obviously non-professional keyboard, so they added the calculator functions, imagining busy businessmen relaxing after a hard day’s accounting by playing along with the ‘Rock’ rhythm.

The 100 Best Products of 2005

http://www.ceprix.net [CeprixConception] PC World has switched sides in the operating system debate, naming Apple’s Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger the No. 1 operating system. Mac OS X Tiger ranks at No. 3 in the list of 100 Best Products of 2005 in this month’s issue. “Tiger’s big new addition, to what was already a well-engineered Mac operating system, is Spotlight, a speedy, well-integrated tool for searching your hard drive. And it’s the best-looking OS around. In other words, Mac fans are already enjoying the cool features that Windows won’t deliver until late 2006.”

Kill the Heat! Lapinator Lap Protector Revisited

http://www.realtechnews.com [Real Tech News - Independent Tech] Not long ago, I posted a review of the insulated laptop protector aptly named “the Lapinator” and gave it a 6 - mostly because the $24.95 price seemed a bit steep. I also had tried it on the road, where most times it seemed unnecessary: on a hotel desk or airplane tray table, there just wasn’t that much laptop heat to contend with. But over the last few weeks I have been updating this website in the evenings with my trusty ThinkPad on my lap as I multitask with the TV.

I probably take more pics over the summer than any other time so I'm glad to go ahead and get this Son . Really haven't had time to play with it. I'm still waiting on the memory card for it. It only comes with a 32MB Memory Stick Duo which is the smallest memory card I've ever seen. Its like a little wafer sized card. Just getting use to the controls and getting it charged up. One cool thing I did was NOT install all the packaged software and I'm using Picasa2 from Google. Nice little FREE piece of software that I highly recommend...

The World's Largest Laser

http://eyescribe.blogspot.com [The Eye Scribe] It's coming! In a structure football-field sized (dubbed the National Ignition Facility), scientists are going to converge 192 laser beams into an area the size of a pencil eraser, each covering 305 meters to the target. The event will create a hydrogen fuel pellet and condense it immensely. And the coolest part is that the condensation will promote the fusing of atoms, resulting in a release of energy greater than what it took to create the it.

An Off-Road Hand-Held to Bring High-Speed Web Surfing Home

Lockergnome's Mobile Lifestylehttp://channels.lockergnome.com/mobile [Lockergnome's Mobile Lifestyle] In a departure from its focus on cellphones, Nokia is aiming for another kind of wireless user. The Nokia 770, which will go on sale this fall for about $350, is a miniature tablet intended primarily for surfing the Web over a Wi-Fi connection. While it uses a chip similar to those found in personal digital assistants, the 8.1-ounce device is not intended for business travelers, and it will not have an address book or a calendar. Instead, it is designed for the casual Web browser, at home or at the nearest cybercafe.

Mac Mini Rip-off

Forever Geek Nerds Are For Dorks[Forever Geek Nerds Are For Dorks] I'm not sure if they can be sued for the design. Even if Apple has a copyright of the Mini design, AOpen can argue that the Mini design isn't substantial or creative enough to be protected by copyright law--and it often works for such simple design. If that fails, they can then argue that their own design is different enough from the Mini: There aren't *that* many alternative shapes available for a tiny pc. Can a small metal box with a slot for cd really be copying someone?

PC Mini

[Callahan’s Corner] I think Apple still has the best designers, but I would be happy with a Wintel (e.g. Windows/Intel) version of the Mac mini. Intel has prepared a prototype of a new SFF (small form factor) computer that closely resembles the Apple computer. I don’t even think it has a name yet, but it is being manufactured by AOpen and was shown at a Computex trade show in Taiwan.

G-Shock versions

[quantumBlog] The G’zOne TYPE-R not only has one of the most god-awful names we've ever seen, it's also one of the most rugged mobiles around. The clamshell is waterproof up to one metre, shock resistant (thanks to the protective foam rim and magnesium alloy case) and it comes with a number of features designed to aid outdoors types, such as 3 types of navigation system (including a digital compass), a stopwatch, flashlight and buzzer. There's no fish hook or tweazers, but it does have an "extension mode" which lets you check emails and use your address book when the battery is dead. It's also got a 1.28-megapixel camera so you can do a spot of snapping while you're out in the wilderness.
