PSP = Portable Suspendable Playstation
[hesthamar.com] During my recent trip to Seoul, South Korea i saw a PSP for the first time in my life, and after about on half minute witht the ting I was sold (or the PSP was sold if you see what I mean). The graphics is somwhere between the PS One ans the PS2, but that is not the piont. What is neat about the device is the good games and playability of them. I dont play that much games, but during the last weeks Ive not played on the Xbox at all. And I only own three PSP games”¦ so go figure. The suspend feature is something I really miss with the Xbox (the xbox should have this feature beeing buildt on vanilla x86 hardware and all), now I can hibernate my gaming session and resume whenever/wherever I want. Really neat

[TechBeat- BusinessWeek Online] New Intel Chieftain Paul Otellini is moving quickly to put his money where his mouth is. The chipmaker last week announced two new desktop platforms for businesses and consumers that claim to be more tailored to the particular needs of each segment. Consumers, for instance, will get more digital media-focused chips and chipsets, including surround-sound and higher-end built-in graphics. In the next few weeks, Intel also plans to outline its mobile strategy more clearly.

[UVA Geek] Come on now Creative, do some real marketing analysis, no one listens to short songs anymore... it's all ball bearings (name that movie).I will give them credit that they're able to squeeze 16 hours of battery life out of their Neeon (beep beep), but I still think that the design could be better, it looks almost like the size of an old Nokia cell phone.Oh but wait, a couple of slides in they mention how it is "Faster and easier than ever. Playing your songs that is. Thoughtfully located on the Zen Neeon's side, the scroll-wheel lets you select and scroll single handedly..." [Oceanside, Nevada :: Main Page] I mentioned this the other day: Hilary Rosen, former head of the RIAA and chief architect of the idea that all consumers are criminals and file-sharing is the fifth horseman of the Apocalypse, is really steamed that Apple uses DRM on the iPod. Disregard for a moment the fact that Hilary lobbied hard for the DMCA, the legislation that pretty much requires Apple to use DRM in music bought through the iTMS. No, strike that, don't disregard it. Hilary Rosen, you are an absolute fucking hypocrite and I cannot believe the nerve it must take for you to have such an opinion.

The LifeDrive Diaries, Part IV: Wireless is wonderful
[Da Wireless Kubo (Home of the m|ph Editors)] But Wi-Fi is easily the most anticipated feature of this handheld, because it multiplies the LifeDrives usability several times. Whereas large-screen models like the T3 and the T5 were useful for working on office documents”even large spreadsheets”they were limited to just working on documents. Wi-Fi adds a kind of immediacy to the work you do with the LifeDrive, like pulling down some data from the Web, reading and responding to an urgent email, sending out updated versions of Word or Excel files.

Nintendo DS VoIP Phone concept
[GadgetSpy] On my screen was Mario, on the other guy, Wario. Mario moved his mouth to the sound coming through on the other guy’s end, though the model couldn’t differentiate standard voice and surrounding noise…so Mario kept moving his mouth since there was ambient noise in the Nintendo booth. The delay between the two systems was extremely minimal, similar to what you’d get when two people on cellphones are trying to converse with each other. I could see the guy speak to me, and the delay was only a couple of milliseconds due to the compression and data transmission.

Cingular Wireless Xpress Mail Personal Edition
[Marc Abramowitz] The way it works is that you download and install a Windows client program that run on a PC that is behind the firewall or that has access to your network through VPN or ssh port forward (I installed the program on a home PC that has access to my IMAP server through an ssh port forward). This program pulls email from Exchange, Domino, GroupWise, POP, IMAP, etc… and then sends it, encrypted, to a Cingular server (note that if you’re paranoid about the security of your data, you might want to investigate a bit more and find out about the quality of the encryption). Now your phone can easily get at it through the Xpress Mail Palm program (as far as I can tell, you must use this program - I don’t think you can use another program like VersaMail, Snapper, or Chatter). Another feature gives you Web access to all of the above at https://xpressmail.cingular.com/subscriber.

The PS3 has (no surprise) a far superior line-up of launch titles, but all the good stuff eventually slums its way to the Xbox. Sounds worthy.
[Oceanside, Nevada :: Main Page] It plays music for you and, based upon what you tell it, learns what you like and finds even more interesting music for you. They just made their Mac client available (I understand they previously had a Windows client and maybe one for Linux) as a beta. I just downloaded it to play with it, so I'll try to remember to let you know what I think.

Sapphire Card Cooled With Liquid Metal
[world.of.unknown] Sapphire Card Cooled With Liquid Metal Filed under: Gadgets ” burnz @ 4:25 pm Card maker Sapphire Technology is demonstrating an ATI Radeon X850 XT PE card at the E3 show in Los Angeles, which is cooled with liquid metal. The “Blizzard” card uses a liquid alloy pumped over the chip to cool it. The alloy, supplied by NanoCoolers, is 65 times more conductive than water, according to the manufacturer, and the card is 25 percent quieter than the standard ATI solution. The PCI Express-based Blizzard will ship with 256 Mbytes of GDDR-3 memory. No prices have been revealed, but the card will reportedly ship this summer. More information is available at the Sapphire web site...

You keep using that word...
[Vastly Important Notes] I've received much good feedback on my last post about the pudding-headed report criticising the new DHS smartcard program. Many people are justifyiably mystified by the report's references to Bluetooth. The strange thing isn't that the new smartcard doesn't use Bluetooth, but that smart cards and Bluetooth have absolutely nothing to do with each other. It's like asking, "Doesn't the new Honda Accord suffer from all the well documented problems of Esperanto?" The short answer is "no", the real answer is, "what the hell are you talking about?" The problem, of course, is buzzword creep. With all the industry terminology floating around these days, it's hard for people to remember whether combining two particular concepts produces an argument that's coherent (like biometrics and privacy) or less so (like pancakes and the doctrine of original intent). That modesty does not typically hinder such people from writing technology assesments or legal opinions is beyond the scope of this blog...

30-inch Apple Cinema Display
[ronny.haryan.to] I just visited a local AppleCentre shop here in Sydney at Broadway today with my friend Jul because he wanted to buy an iPod Mini. I was trying my best not to drool over the keyboards and the displays, but it was really tough, you know. They have (almost) all of the usual suspects in the shop: Powerbook G4, iBook G4, iMac G5, eMac, iSight, PowerMac G5, yada yada yada, and–always–a cute Asian girl behind the counter.

This app makes the LifeDrive a more convenient mobile workhorse, especially when paired with the Universal Wireless Keyboard. Replacing Parents With Technology
[trendyblog] As someone once said, “Have you ever tried turning off the TV, sitting down with your children, and hitting them?” (Hint: it was an animated character.) Or, for those parents who prefer more traditional and less violent disciplinary measures, there’s always the old standby of actually forcing your child to go outdoors. Nobody (with the exception of some children with rare immune diseases or sensitivity to sunlight from albinoism) has been hurt by running around in the grass for a couple hours and getting dirty. Hell, when I was at the age these things are designed for, I would spend a couple hours outside, either in a running stream behind my house, or later, in an empty lot across the street, splashing or digging or whatever with friends. I credit my metabolism, which keeps me relatively thin during time periods I’ve been too busy to exercise on a schedule, to the early exercise I got.

Secure FTP Servers
[Jimiz.net - Jim Becher on the web - Home of IIS Reporter] A drawback to this program is not necessarily due to the selection of the globalscape product but all secure ftp servers. They tend to require the use of their own ftp client. While the client is typically inexpensive, purchasing a client for all users can get very pricy. So I have made the decision to only use one standard ftp client (Filezilla) , it works with all secure ftp servers and also any version of ssh.

A Time Machine
[SoWeirdProductions] I dont know to much about time machines or electronics, but from my observations I believe that the machine might have caught on fire, at some time or another from the looks of the inside, and is now in a non working condition … I found the time machine in december of 2004 and I have tried to get it to work but I could not, I even called my best friend who has worked on cars, even he could not get it to work … if I cant get the time machine to work, then its not worth that much to me, so that is why im selling it on ebay. Also I figured I could get a little extra money so I could finish renovating my bathroom.
